Description:Join a first rate child welfare agency serving at-risk youth and their families through residential treatment, education, foster care and older adolescent programs. Employment Mentor reports to the Workforce Development Supervisor. Provides employment mentoring to youth in subsidized employment experiences to assist in job orientation, developing positive workplace relationships, and reinforcing the standards of performance outlined in the workforce development principles. Provides case management services to youth during regular meetings on-site and during frequent visits to their place of employment. Frequent utilization of personal vehicle for ongoing site visits. Effective use of oral and written communications skills. Use of crisis intervention techniques (both verbal and physical). Physical intervention requires the ability to kneel and return to standing without assistance. Employment Mentor must have the flexibility to adjust work schedule to the needs of the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mentoring
• Provide vocational guidance and supportive counseling as needed.
• Assist participants in securing subsidized employment opportunities in fields of client interest and in high growth industries.
• Assist participants in learning essential job functions and orientation to the workplace environment and culture.
• Model the principles of employment success taught during the pre-employment curriculum.
• Provide encouragement and support as the participants transition to the workplace.
• During site visits, monitor client performance and participation, observe behavior, and intervene as needed.
• Develop a positive working relationship with the employer to facilitate open communication and feedback related to performance.
• Deliver employment mentoring services to youth placed in work experiences.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with employers working with youth in employment opportunities.
• Provide coaching to youth at their place of employment that encourages growth and development.
• Provide services to youth in their place of employment while maintaining confidentiality, client integrity and remaining conducive to the work setting.

Employment Counseling
• Provides supplementary services, as needed including Coping with Mental, Emotional, and Learning Disabilities; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and transgender employment services; and financial literacy programming.
• Facilitate job readiness groups.
• Assesses skills attainment, career planning, and referrals to supportive community employment.

General Requirements
• Maintain personal area and program service areas in a neat and orderly fashion.
• Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
• Attend all staff meetings and in-service training as required.
• Participate in program evaluation as required.
• Participate in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement activities as assigned.
• Work effectively with clients and staff in a culturally diverse environment.
• Accurately complete documents as needed.
• Effectively communicate with referring agencies and/or case managers regarding clients needs, placement and program services
• Maintain a professional standard when representing the agency or clients.
• Engage in continuing education and professional development in an effort to provide best practice.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree in a human service field with related experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree outside of human service field and 5 years of experience in child welfare, employment services or human resources accepted.
• Strong sales ability.
• Must be highly organized, detail focused, have excellent time management and possess strong computer skills.
• Experience with DCFS wards preferred.
• Proof of insurance.
• Valid Illinois Drivers license and clearance through DCFS.
• Use of personal vehicle.
• No history of child abuse or neglect.
